Does the speed of technology scare you? - Technology is moving fast and along with it we move fast to comperehend the new concepts and new systems. By 2015 the 35mm film will be gone and from our memories it will be erased forever. The coming generation will not know anything about it, for everything will be considered easy at their finger tips. Since technology is improving in every corner of the world today from cell phones, televisions, automobiles, weapons, and computers, Hollywood is also attracted to the new tech as much as we are impressed with a small new cell phone in our hand. A new documentary produced by Keanu Reevers (The Matrix Trilogy) tackles one of the problems that contemporary film-makers face today. We are talking about the appearance of digital filmmaking.
Titled 'Side By Side, this intriguing documentary investigates the history, process and workflow of both digital and photochemical film creation. It shows what artists and filmmakers have been able to accomplish with both film and digital and how their needs and innovations have helped push filmmaking in new directions. Interviews with directors, cinematographers, colorists, scientists, engineers and artists reveal their experiences and feelings about working with film and digital — where we are now, how we got here and what the future may bring.
I am personally very intrigued to see what contemporary film-makers say about the new technology and its impact on cinema and their style of film-making. Side By Side is going to be premiered worldwide on February 15, 2012.
